All money in 2092 is digital. Yuwan, Cryptos, and Scripts are blockchain-based currencies or tokens stored and transferred electronically. Traditional physical currency such as banknotes and minted coins is no longer used for ordinary commerce.
Currency may be carried offline on secure physical chips containing verified tokens. These chips function much like physical cash: possession of the chip provides access to the currency stored on it, allowing transactions without transferring funds directly between accounts.
For game purposes, currencies fall into three broad categories:
- Yuwan is the standard currency and default measure of value.
- Cryptos are volatile currencies whose value may rise or fall against the Yuwan.
- Scripts are corporate currencies with stable nominal value but limited acceptance.
Unless otherwise stated, all prices, payments, and monetary values are expressed in Yuwan.
Yuwan
Yuwan (¥¥) is the standard international currency of 2092 and the benchmark against which most other currencies are valued.
Yuwan is designed for stability rather than speculation. Its value is supported by a broad reserve system and it is accepted throughout most of the global economy.
Unless otherwise stated, all prices in this SRD are listed in Yuwan.
Dubs and twins are common slang terms for Yuwan. These terms have no mechanical distinction.
Cryptos
Cryptos are volatile digital currencies whose value fluctuates against the Yuwan. A payment offered in Crypto is usually described by its current nominal Yuwan value, but that value is not guaranteed.
When a character receives Crypto, roll 1d10 to determine its actual value:
| 1d10 | Actual Value |
|---|---|
| 1 | 25% |
| 2–3 | 50% |
| 4–6 | 75% |
| 7–9 | 100% |
| 10 | 150% |
Multiply the Crypto’s nominal value by the result. This becomes the Yuwan value of that holding.
For example, ¥¥10,000 worth of Crypto may actually be worth ¥¥2,500, ¥¥5,000, ¥¥7,500, ¥¥10,000, or ¥¥15,000.
Once determined, the value remains fixed for game purposes unless a rule or event specifically causes the market to change.
Scripts
Scripts are digital currencies issued or controlled by corporations. Most Scripts are pegged to the Yuwan and are designed to maintain a stable nominal value.
Unless otherwise stated, 1 Yuwan worth of Script has a nominal value of ¥¥1. Unlike Yuwan, however, Scripts are not universally accepted.
Organizations and businesses associated with the issuing corporation normally accept its Script at full value. Others may accept it at a reduced value or refuse it entirely, particularly competing corporations and independent markets.
When Script is not accepted directly, it must be exchanged for Yuwan or another accepted currency before it can be spent. The terms of that exchange depend on the market and circumstances.
A character may therefore possess ¥¥5,000 worth of Script without having ¥¥5,000 of freely spendable money.
Buying and Selling
Equipment lists its normal price in Yuwan (¥¥). This price already accounts for the item’s typical production, demand, and place in the economy.
Static Veil does not assume that campaigns take place in any specific city or region. Unless stated otherwise, however, listed prices and Availability assume a wealthy, developed economy with functioning infrastructure, established markets, and reliable access to global trade.
In poorer, isolated, unstable, or heavily disrupted areas, the GM may adjust prices or Availability to reflect local conditions.
Being expensive does not necessarily make an item difficult to obtain, and being Restricted or Illegal does not automatically change its price. Each item’s Price, Availability, and Access Tag are determined separately.
Characters may normally purchase available equipment at its listed price. Restricted or Illegal goods may require additional access or sourcing, as described under Availability and Markets.
The value of used, stolen, damaged, modified, or otherwise unusual equipment depends on the buyer and circumstances. There is no universal resale value.
