Not all augmentations are manufactured, fitted, or installed to the same standard.
An augmentation’s Grade modifies both its Price and its Anima Cost. Higher-grade augmentations use better materials, cleaner interfaces, more extensive calibration, and greater customization to reduce the disruption caused by integrating them with the body. Lower-grade augmentations cut those corners.
Unless stated otherwise, augmentations are Standard Grade.
Bootleg
Bootleg augmentations are counterfeit, poorly matched, crudely manufactured, improperly refurbished, or installed with minimal customization.
A Bootleg augmentation costs 50% of its listed Price and 150% of its listed Anima Cost.
Round the final Anima Cost to the nearest 0.25.
Bootleg does not necessarily mean the augmentation is mechanically weaker. Its increased Anima Cost represents poor integration with the recipient rather than reduced performance.
Standard
Standard augmentations represent normal commercial-grade ware manufactured and fitted according to contemporary medical and technical standards.
Standard augmentations use their listed Price and Anima Cost without modification.
Unless an augmentation entry states otherwise, it is assumed to be Standard Grade.
Tailored
Tailored augmentations are built, cultured, or extensively adapted for a specific recipient. Their interfaces, dimensions, biological compatibility, calibration, and other integration requirements are customized to reduce the disruption caused by the augmentation.
A Tailored augmentation costs 200% of its listed Price and 75% of its listed Anima Cost.
Round the final Anima Cost to the nearest 0.25.
Tailored Grade does not normally improve the augmentation’s listed performance. Its primary advantage is reduced Anima Cost.
Second-Hand Augmentations
Previously installed augmentations are not automatically compatible with a new recipient.
Second-hand Cyberware normally counts as Bootleg when installed in another character unless it has been professionally rebuilt and adapted for them.
With appropriate facilities, parts, time, and a Cyberware test, second-hand Cyberware may be restored to Standard Grade before installation. Tailored Grade cannot normally be preserved when an augmentation changes recipients.
Second-hand Bioware is rarely reusable. When transfer is possible, adapting or preparing it requires Bioware, Medicine, or both, depending on the procedure.
Unless an individual augmentation states otherwise, Bioware cannot be transferred directly from one character to another without specialized preparation.
